Der Halfterfisch bildet eine eigene Familie, wird jedoch sehr oft mit einem Wimpelfisch verwechselt.

Normalerweise einzeln oder paarweise, aber auch gelegentlich kleine Schwärme.

Er wird maximal 22 cm lang.
