Einleitung
Introduction
Es gibt 2 Unterfamilien, 5 Gattungen und über 70 Arten.
Sie sind sehr gut getarnt, manchmal vergraben sie sich im Sand.
Sie haben ein tief gespaltenes Maul mit vielen spitzen Zähnen, auch auf der Zunge.
Eidechsenfische machen einen schnellen Geschwindigkeitsstoß, um sich auf ihre Beute zu stürzen. Je nach Art erreichen sie eine Größe zwischen 12 und 50 cm.

There are 2 subfamilies, 5 genera and over 70 species.
They are very well camouflaged, sometimes burying themselves in the sand.
They have a deeply cleft mouth with many pointed teeth, including on the tongue.
Lizardfish make a quick burst of speed to pounce on their prey. Depending on the species, they reach a size of between 12 and 50 cm.

Hat zwei dunkle Rückenflecken und sehr spitze Zähne auf den Seiten seines Kiefers.
Kann blitzartig starten, wenn er auf der Lauer liegt.
Frisst kleine Fische, dabei regelmäßiger Platzwechsel.
Findet man eher in trüben Lagunen auf dem Sand.

Clouded lizardfish
Maximale Länge: 20 cm
Tiefe: 1 - 15 m
Beheimatet in flachen, trüben Gewässern.
Nicht leicht von anderen Gattungen zu unterscheiden.
Wegen Ihres eidechsenähnlichen Kopfes tragen sie ihren Namen zurecht.
Das große Maul sowie die Zunge haben viele nadelaartigen Zähne.

Not easy to distinguish from other genera.
They are aptly named because of their lizard-like head.
The large mouth and tongue have many needle-like teeth.

Common sand diver
Maximale Länge: 45 cm
Tiefe: 8 - 25 m
Ihr Körper hat dünne goldene Längsstreifen und rötlichbraune Querbänder.
Kann verblassen oder dunkler werden, um mit dem Untergrund zu verschmelzen.
Liegt auf dem Sand, oder vergräbt sich, so daß nur die Augen zu sehen sind, liegt aber auch gerne auf Riffdächern.
Nicht scheu, da er sehr auf seine Tarnung vertraut, schwimmt er erst weg wenn man ihm zu nahe kommt.

Its body has thin golden longitudinal stripes and reddish-brown transverse bands.
May fade or darken to blend in with the substrate.
Lies on the sand, or buries itself so that only the eyes are visible, but also likes to lie on reef tops.
Not shy, as it relies very much on its camouflage, it only swims away if you get too close.

Leicht zu übersehender Fisch, da gute Tarnung.
Relativ spitze Schnauze und deutliche Bänderung.
Ot am Fuß von Droppoffs auf Fels und Korallengeröll.

Relatively pointed snout and clear banding.
Ot at the foot of drop-offs on rock and coral rubble.

Variegated lizardfish
Maximale Länge: 28 cm
Tiefe: 3 - 50 m
Der häufigste Eidechsenfisch in den Riffen.
Besiedelt meistens paarweise Aussenriffe und Lagunen.
Etwa alle 4 Minuten wechselt er seinen Platz und etwa alle 30 Minuten macht er Jagd auf Beute.

The most common lizardfish in the reefs.
Usually colonizes outer reefs and lagoons in pairs.
It changes its position about every 4 minutes and hunts for prey about every 30 minutes.

Blunt-nose lizardfish
Maximale Länge: 30 cm
Tiefe: 0,5 - 200 m+
In Gruppen auf küstennahen Sandfächen bis in großer Tiefe anzutreffen.
Normalerweise bis auf die Augen im Sand eingegraben.
Wenn sie jagen, kann man sie im Freien sehen, danach graben sie sich aber immer wieder schnell ein.

Found in groups on coastal sand flats down to great depths.
Usually buried in the sand up to their eyes.
When they are hunting, they can be seen in the open, but afterwards they quickly burrow back into the sand.
