Einleitung
Introduction
Diese Fische ähneln den Muränen.
Sie sind langgestreckt und haben zwischen 110 und 270 Wirbel.
Sie haben keine oder sehr kleine Brust - und Schwanzflossen, die durch die After - und Rückenflosse übernommen werden.
Da die Schwanzspitze bei vielen Arten knöchern verstärkt ist, haben die Aale die Möglichkeit sich sehr schnell rückwärts in den Sand zu bohren.
Sie werden je nach Art zwischen 11 cm und 1,7 m lang.

Seine Nasenlöcher zeigen nach unten.
An Außenriffen in Sandzonen anzutreffen.
Gewöhnlich ist er im Sand oder Schlamm eingegraben, wobei nur sein Kopf herauslugt.
Nachts jagt er kleine Fische und Krebse nur nach Geruch.

Der Körper selbst ist dünn und grau, kann aber auch olivbraun sein.
Man findet diese Art in Bereichen mit Felsgeröll, in Riffen, sowie in flachen Seegraswiesen.
Sie können sich unter dem Sand fortbewegen.
Am Tag normalerweise versteckt, in der Nacht auf Nahrungssuche.
Nicht scheu, erlauben eine dichte Annäherung.

Diese schöne Art bewohnt Sandböden und Seegraswiesen, meist sieht man nur den Kopf aus dem Sand ragen.
Wenn das Tier mal frei schwimmt, gräbt es sich bei Störung sehr schnell mit dem Schwanz voran im Sand ein.
Sie haben kein permanentes Heim.
Der Körper ist schwarz - weiß gebändert und soll wahrscheinlich den von Seeschlangen imitieren, um somit Schutz zu bieten, der Schwanz ist jedoch im Gegensatz zu den Schlangen zugespitzt.

When the animal swims freely, it quickly buries itself tail first in the sand if disturbed.

The body is banded black and white and is probably intended to imitate that of sea snakes to provide protection, but the tail is pointed unlike the snakes.
