Einleitung
Introduction
Es gibt fast 50 Gattungen und etwa 160 Arten.
Es handelt sich um grundelähnliche Tiere. Ihre Bauchflossen sind zu einer Saugscheibe, mit der sich die Fische am Untergrund festhalten können, verwachsen.
Ihre Haut hat eine starke Schleimschicht, keine Schuppen.
Die meisten Arten werden nur um die 5 cm lang, einige nur 2- 3 cm, die größte Art kann eine Länge von 30 cm erreichen.
