Soldatenfische sind nächtliche Planktonfresser.
Sie lungern tagsüber die meiste Zeit offenbar ziellos am Riff herum, oft in Schwärmen und unter Überhängen.

During the day they spend most of their time apparently loitering aimlessly around the reef, often in schools and under overhangs.

Blackbar soldierfish

Tiefe: 5 - 20 m
Schwarzes quer verlaufendes Band hinter dem Kopf.
Rot bis silbrigroter Körper mit weißer Zeichnung an den Spitzen und an der Basis der Rückenflosse.
Alle anderen Flossen mit weißem Aussenrand.
Nicht scheu, eher neugierig, starrt Taucher häufig aus Löchern und Spalten an, man kann sich vorsichtig nähern.

Am Tag schwebt er in Höhlen oder unter Unterhängen.
Nachtjäger, der ungefähr eine Stunde vor Sonnenaufgang in sein Versteck zurückkehrt.
Manchmal in sehr großen Schulen zu sehen.

Husarenfische sind nachtaktiv. Sie schwimmen auf der Suche nach Krabben, Garnelen und Würmern über den Riffboden.
Am Kiemendeckel haben die Fische einen giftigen Stachel.
Je nach Art werden sie zwischen 20 und 60 cm lang.

Hussar fish are nocturnal. They swim across the reef floor in search of crabs, shrimps and worms.
The fish have a poisonous sting on the gill cover.
Depending on the species, they grow to between 20 and 60 cm in length.

Ihr Körper ist silbrig-rot, mit orange-goldenen Streifen, ihre erste Rückenflosse hat weiße Spitzen und an der Basis weiße Flecken.
Ihre Afterflosse ist ungewöhnlich lang.
Etwas scheu, zieht sich bei Annäherung in Spalten oder Löcher zurück.

Dunkle bronzerote-, goldene- und längsilberstreifen am Körper.
Diese scheue Art wird nicht so oft gesehen, obwohl sie häufig ist, immer versteckt in Nischen und dunklen, geschützten Bereichen.
