Sie haben einen langgestreckten Körper, der hinten seitlich leicht abgeflacht ist und hochstehende Augen.

Die Schlammspringer sind amphibisch lebende Fische und verbringen die meiste Zeit außerhalb des Wassers.

Einzeltier, auf riffnahen Algenfeldern, Korallengeröll oder toten Korallen anzutreffen.

Er ernährt sich in seiner natürlichen Umgebung überwiegend von Grünalgen, die von Steinen oder abgestorbenen Korallen abgeweidet werden.

Der Schleimfisch bewohnt reiche Korallengipfel, immer in der Nähe einer Anemone, der Condylactis gigantea ( karibische Goldrose ), aber nicht wie z.b. die Anemonenfische, deren Körperschleim immun gegen die Nesseln der Anemone sind, da der Körperschleim dieses kleinen Fisches nicht gegen eben dieses Gift immun ist, weswegen er jegliche Berührung vermeidet.

The blenny inhabits rich coral pinnacles, always close to an anemone, the Condylactis gigantea ( Caribbean golden rose ), but not like the anemone fish, for example, whose body mucus is immune to the nettles of the anemone, as the body mucus of this small fish is not immune to this poison, which is why it avoids any contact.

Auf Schlamm-und Sandflächen, in senkrechten Löchern, die von anderen Riffbewohnern erzeugt wurden, dabei meist nur der Kopf zu sehen.

Wie alle Schleimfische taucht auch er rückwärts ins Loch rein.

On mud and sandy areas, in vertical holes created by other reef inhabitants, usually only the head is visible.

Like all blennies, it also dives backwards into the hole.
