Einleitung
Introduction
Die Fische erhielten ihren deutschen Namen, weil sie grunzende Laute mit ihren Schlundzähnen erzeugen können, die durch die Schwimmblase noch verstärkt werden.
Grunzer sind vor allem nachtaktiv und stehen tagsüber inaktiv in großen Schulen in der Nähe von Versteckmöglichkeiten und verteilen sich nachts auf der Suche nach Nahrung über Seegraswiesen und Sandflächen.

The fish got their German name because they can produce grunting sounds with their gullet teeth, which are amplified by the swim bladder.
Grunts are mainly nocturnal and are inactive during the day in large schools near hiding places and disperse at night in search of food over seagrass meadows and sandy areas.

Hat hinter den Brustflossen einen großen dunklen Fleck, sowie dunkle Flossen.
Bewohnt küstennahe Riffe, bevorzugt dabei felsige Teile des Riffs.
Scheu, zieht sich bei Annäherung in Höhlen, Spalten oder andere Verstecke zurück.

Inhabits nearshore reefs, preferring rocky parts of the reef.
Shy, retreats into caves, crevices or other hiding places when approached.

Hoher Rücken.
Wenig scheu, läßt Taucher dicht ran.

Smallmouth grunt
Maximale Länge: 25 cm
Tiefe: 3 - 15 m
Länglicher, zylinderischer Körper mit 5 bis 6 gelben Längsstreifen und gelben Flossen.
Ihr Maul fällt kleiner aus, als das von anderen Grunzern.
Sie bevorzugen flache Riffe, in denen sie in kleinen Schwärmen in Bodennähe schwimmen.
Scheu, auch hier ist Geduld und langsames Heranschwimmen nötig.

Elongated, cylindrical body with 5 to 6 yellow longitudinal stripes and yellow fins.
Their mouth is smaller than that of other grunts.
They prefer shallow reefs where they swim in small shoals near the bottom.
Shy, patience and a slow approach are also required here.

Hoher Rücken, weiße Brustflossen, kann aber dunkle Flecken sowie 3 blasse Streifen auf dem Körper aufweisen.
Die Rücken- und Schwanzflossen sind für gewöhnlich dunkel.
Größte Grunzer Art.

The dorsal and caudal fins are usually dark in colour.
Largest grunt species.

Schwanz - After - und der hintere Teil der Rückenflosse sind dunkel, Schwanzflosse mit einem hellen Rand.
Normalerweise in kleinen Schwärmen anzutreffen.

Yellow to dark copper or bronze-coloured longitudinal stripes.
Tail - anus - and the rear part of the dorsal fin are dark, caudal fin with a light-coloured edge.
Normally found in small shoals.

French grunt, Banana grunt, Gold laced grunt, Open mouthed grunt, Redmouth grunt or Yellow grunt
Maximale Länge: 30 cm
Tiefe: 4 - 20 m
Weiß, bläulich, bis gelblich silbriger Untergrund mit gelben Streifen und gelben Flossen.
Schwimmen in Schwärmen von bis bis zu mehreren tausend Tieren in dichter Formation über die Korallenriffe.
Scheu, um dicht an die Tiere ran zu kommen, ist Geduld und ein sehr langsames Verhalten von Nöten.

White, bluish, to yellowish silvery background with yellow stripes and yellow fins.
Swim in shoals of up to several thousand animals in dense formations over the coral reefs.
Shy, patience and very slow behaviour are required to get close to the animals.

Unverkennbares Schuppenmuster, durch schwarze Flecken in Linien angeordnet.
Gelegentlich einzeln unterwegs, sonst in kleinen Gruppen.
Sehr scheu, immer einen Sicherheitsabstand einhaltend.

Unmistakable scale pattern, arranged in lines by black spots.
Occasionally travelling alone, otherwise in small groups.
Very shy, always keeping a safe distance.

Bluestriped grunt, Boar grunt, Golden grunt, Humpback grunt, Redmouth grunt or Yellow grunt
Maximale Länge: 45 cm
Tiefe: 4 - 15 m
Der Schwanz und der hintere Teil der Rückenflosse sind schwarz, haben aber einen hellen Rand.
Gerne an Drop-offs in kleinen bis mittelgroßen Schwärmen anzutreffen.
Er ist scheuer als andere Grunzer.
Wenn ein Taucher sich nähert, schwimmen sie davon.
Man muß schon Geduld haben, wenn man näher an sie ran will.

Tiefe: 10 - 50 m
Silbrig - blau mit dünnen Streifen.
Man findet Schwärme von ihnen im Freiwasser, meistens in einer Tiefe von 15 - 30 m.
Gerne mit Schwärmen vom Creolen - Lippfisch vermischt.
Nicht scheu, man kommt meist nah an sie ran.

Silvery blue with thin stripes.
Shoals of them can be found in open water, usually at a depth of 15 - 30 metres.
Often mixed with shoals of creole wrasse.
Not shy, you can usually get close to them.
