Dies ist eine recht häufig vorkommende Art, die in geschützten, sandigen Gebieten bis zu seewärts gelegenen Riffen, über Sandböden in der Nähe von Schutt, Felsen oder Korallen zu finden ist.
Sie kommt gelegentlich auch in Tiefen von über 40 Metern vor.

This is a fairly common species found in sheltered, sandy areas up to seaward reefs, over sandy bottoms near rubble, rocks or corals.

It is occasionally found at depths of over 40 metres.

Ein dunkler Querstreifen verläuft von der Oberseite des Kopfes durch die Augen bis zu den Wangen.

Oberhalb der Brustflosse, nicht immer deutlich zu sehen - hier aber gut, ein goldener schwarz umrandeter Fleck.

Sehr scheu, verschwindet bei Annäherung schnell in kleine Löcher und Spalten.

A dark horizontal stripe runs from the top of the head through the eyes to the cheeks.

Above the pectoral fin, not always clearly visible - but good here, a golden spot with a black border.

Very shy, quickly disappears into small holes and crevices when approached.

Nicht scheu, durchsiebt den Sand nach wirbellosen Kleinsttieren und macht oft Pausen, dabei auf dem Sand liegend.

Not shy, sifts through the sand for small invertebrates and often takes breaks, lying on the sand.

Found in rich coral reefs, drop offs and patch reefs in sandy areas.

Always stays close to hiding places.
