Introduction


There are 17 genera and 37 species.

Velvet fish originate mainly from the Indo-Pacific region.

There are also representatives of this family in the Red Sea, such as the Ptarmus gallus presented here.

The name velvetfish comes from the tiny scales that give it a velvety appearance.

Unfortunately, almost nothing is known about this small predator.

Found on rubble or dead coral.

Lies motionless for self-protection.

There are blunt spines on the head.
