Introduction


There are 3 genera with 13 species.

Bonefishes live pelagic in the sea, more rarely in brackish and fresh water

 Bonefishes are known from fossils dating back to the Cretaceous period.

Their larval form shows that they are related to eels.

They live mainly in the sea, but also in brackish and fresh water in the tropics.

Their maximum length is 1 m.

Has only one dorsal fin, is silvery in colour and sometimes has pale stripes.

It feeds in shallow water zones on the rising tide, often near mangroves.

Otherwise it can also be seen on sandy areas between patch reefs.

Extremely shy fish, approaching is very difficult.
