Ranina ranina

The red frog crab, Spanner crab or Kona crab

Maximum size: 15 cm

Depth: 10 - 335 metres

It is nocturnal.

The crab is the only surviving species of its genus.

The carapace has ten white spots on a reddish-brown background,

which is why it is also known as the red frog crab.

During the day it buries itself in the sand,

only its eyes and part of its mouth are visible.
