Introduction

Their body colour is reddish or sandy yellow with light spots

and very similar to the surrounding seabed in which they can be found.

This colouring acts as camouflage,

making them extremely difficult to spot in their natural habitat.

Like many species of scorpionfish, this fish swims very poorly,

usually just crawling around in the sand.

They grow up to 25 cm long.

Poisonous.

Inimicus didactylus

Sea goblin, demon stinger or Devil stinger

Maximum length 25 cm

Depth: 1 - 50 m +

Often buried in the sand during the day,

with its highly venomous fin rays sticking out.

Instead of swimming, it tends to walk along the bottom

on its two free pectoral fin spines, with its caudal fin folded over.

Variable colouration, some bright red.

When threatened, it shows its typical pectoral fin warning colouration.
