An der Unterseite der Arme befinden sich zahlreiche Füßchen, die der Fortbewegung dienen.

Dabei streckt sich eine Gruppe der beweglichen Füße in die gleiche Richtung vor, heftet sich an einer Unterlage fest und verkürzt sich dann wieder.

Bei dieser Verkürzung zieht das Tier den Körper nach, zwar nicht schnell, aber gewandt und gleichmäßig.

In der Körpermitte befindet sich auf der Unterseite der Tiere die Mundöffnung.

Da sie selbst tot sehr dekorativ aussehen, werden sie oft gesammelt, getrocknet und dann an Touristen verkauft.

Viele Arten wie der " Genetzte Kissenstern " aus der Karibik sind deshalb sehr selten geworden.
