Einleitung
Introduction
Die Stacheln der Seeigel sitzen auf kleinen Gelenkhöckern und sind durch Muskeln teilweise beweglich.
Die Ausbildung der Stacheln, deren Größe, Funktion usw. können je nach Art sehr unterschiedlich sein.
Bei den regulären Seeigeln werden drei Haupttypen unterschieden, bei den irregulären gar zehn bis zwölf.
Die Stacheln dienen vor allem zum Schutz vor Räubern wie Seesternen großen Schnecken und Fischen und können bei einigen Arten beim Stechen sogar Gift abgeben, besonders giftig dabei sind die Lederseeigel (Feuerseeigel).
Es gibt Seeigel, die sich mit ihren Stacheln in Hartsubstrate wie Korallenriffe und Felsen einbohren. In seltenen Fällen wird mit den Stacheln angetriebene Nahrung eingefangen.
Bewohner der Sandböden benutzen ihre Stacheln auch zur Fortbewegung.
Tritt man auf einen Stachel, bricht dieser unter Umständen ab und bleibt im Fuß stecken, was zu schmerzhaften eitrigen Entzündungen führen kann.
Bei einigen Arten sind die Stacheln zudem schwierig zu entfernen.

Dieser sehr schöne Seeigel ist äußert giftig.
Nachtaktiv, weiße Giftblasen an den Stachelspitzen, ihre Stiche sind sehr schmerzhaft.

Sehr schöner Seeigel, aber auch sehr giftig.
Ich kann ein Lied davon singen, leider war ich beim Fotografieren eines dieser Seeigel nicht aufmerksam genug, und berührte mit der Hand einen der etwas vor dem lag den ich fotografierte. Es war das schmerzhafteste Erlebnis das ich unter Wasser hatte, da sind Feuerkorallen gar nichts dagegen. Also Vorsicht!!!
Haben eine variable Färbung.

Very beautiful sea urchins, but also very poisonous.
I can tell you a thing or two about it, unfortunately I wasn't paying enough attention when photographing one of these sea urchins and touched one with my hand that was slightly in front of the one I was photographing. It was the most painful experience I've had underwater, fire corals are nothing compared to that. So be careful!!!
They have a variable colouring.

In Gruppen stehende dunkelrote Stacheln, Radialzonen mit Reihen leuchtend blauer Punkte die stachelfrei sind.
Man findet sie auf Sandböden, oft in Gruppen ( Foto 3 ).
Es können schmerzhafte Verletzungen durch die Stacheln entstehen.

Häufig in karibischen Gewässern, er ist ein harmloser Algenfresser, dennoch sollten Taucher, Schnorchler und Badegäste sehr vorsichtig mit dem Tier umgehen.
Seine feinen stacheligen Dornen dringen leicht in die Haut ein und brechen dort ab, wobei sie dort Infektionen und schmerzhafte Wunden verursachen!
Die Stacheln des Seeigels sind dunkel lila bis schwarz, manchmal auch gräulich bis weiß.
Die Stacheln junger Seeigel können gebändert sein.
