Einleitung
Introduction
Alle Muscheln haben zwei Schalen, sie sind verbunden mit flexiblen Bändern.
Die meisten sind Filtrierer, im Sand vergraben oder mit einer Schale an Fels festgewachsen.
Nur einige wenige können schwimmen.

All mussels have two shells, they are connected with flexible bands.
Most are filter feeders, buried in the sand or with a shell attached to a rock.
Only a few can swim.

Größe: 6 - 7 cm
Leuchtent- bis orangeroter Mantel. Im Flachwasser sind die Tentakel oft rötlichorange ( Foto 2 -3 ), in tieferem Wasser sind sie weiß ( Foto 1 ).
Die Schalenhälften sind weißlich bis bräunlich und haben viele feine Radialrippen.
Die Muschel ist in der Lage, in ruckartigen Bewegungen eigenständig zu schwimmen und sucht sich dabei gelegentlich Standorte hinter Steinen aus.

Size: 6 - 7 cm
Luminescent to orange-red mantle. In shallow water the tentacles are often reddish-orange ( photo 2 -3 ), in deeper water they are white ( photo 1 ).
The shell halves are whitish to brownish in colour and have many fine radial ribs.
The mussel is able to swim independently in jerky movements and occasionally seeks out locations behind stones.

Iridescent clam, Coral clam or Coral scallop
Größe: 3 - 6 cm
Man findet sie in der Natur ausschließlich in lebenden Korallen, wo sie sich einnistet und wächst.
Sie befestigt sich mit Byssusfäden am Kalkskelett der Koralle und wird von diesen überwachsen, so dass nur mehr die Schalenöffnungen zu sehen sind.

In nature, it is found exclusively in living corals, where it settles and grows.
It attaches itself to the calcareous skeleton of the coral with byssus threads and is overgrown by these, so that only the shell openings are visible.

Maximale Länge: von 1,2 m ( Große Riesenmuschel ) bis 15 cm ( Bohr - Riesenmuschel )
Die Unterschiede sind bei manchen Arten so klein, daß ich sie nicht unterscheiden kann, sorry, daher keinen Namen.
